Biedermeier is an artistic style that emerged in the German-speaking regions of Central Europe following the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Reflecting the values of the rising bourgeoisie, it combines the clarity of Neoclassicism with domestic comfort, functionality and restrained elegance. The style found its fullest expression in furniture, interior design, painting and the decorative arts.
