RÉGENCE

Early 18th Century

The Régence style is an artistic movement that developed in France during the Regency of Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, following the death of Louis XIV. It represents the transitional phase between the late Baroque and Rococo, combining classical symmetry with lighter forms, refined ornament and an increasing emphasis on comfort and intimacy in architecture, interiors and the decorative arts.
