Cabinet, portable, writing instrument, in the style of Boule. Brass, tortoiseshell on black lacquer. France 19th century. 7x 24x 29 cm. Represents a drop-down, sloping paper panel and a hidden pencil case with a pair of inkwells, a lodgement and a pen sharpening tool. The top panel is decorated with a single ensemble with corner vignettes clamping a cartouche. The lid of the pencil case with a hidden key hole is decorated horizontally and fits into the overall character of the decor. Along the edges of the device is summarized with a gilded bronze overlay.
