Mikhail Alexandrovich Zichy. Watercolor. Horse hunting of Alexander II near St. Petersburg. Depicts the emperor`s dog hunting in favorite Baltic places. The composition is formed by a triangle, inside of which sleds in red uniforms with a pack of dogs are moving. On the right, closer to the center, a mighty pine stands out the figure and significance of the emperor. In his entourage, escort officers, horse rangers and Cossacks are excellently discharged. Beaters with a pack of dogs rush past the emperor, as if on parade, as if waiting for an order. Superbly found angles of horses and their noble silhouettes add lively credibility and documentary integrity to the work. The subtlest color of changeable autumn unites the work and adds sharpness of authenticity. Alexander Rizzoni. Genre scene Playing with cats. For all the seeming mercy of the plot, the poor boy playing with cats, the picture contains a layer of social criticism, without which Russian realism cannot do. The simple amusements of poor adolescence are the main theme of the work. Of the available entertainment, only playing with cats in the dust of an empty basement of a greengrocer`s shop remained. An Italian youth hides a bunch of turnips behind his back, with which he teases a cat sitting on a settled barrel. A meager light seeps in through the cobwebs of the window. But the unsophisticated cheerfulness, the positive temperament of youth, the unaccountable joy of life - take their toll. They illuminate the surrounding hardships, give meaning to life and value to being, the detached contemplation of which the artist offers. It has pity for a person who deserves better, and everyday wisdom of accepting circumstances. Life is everywhere, work affirms. Author`s signature in the lower right corner. Canvas, oil, 41x33 cm.

Crimean landscape. Russia. Early 20th century

A delightful Crimean sketch with a view of the coastal stones, buildings and mountains on a hot summer afternoon. In the picture, the mobility of a windy day is felt. It is built on multidirectional vectors of movement of the sea, and clouds rising to the mountains. The diagonal composition is balanced by three poplar verticals and a green-roofed house that gives a sense of the presence of people. The unsteady haze of a hot day is conveyed by the mobility of the atmosphere, surf, glare of stones and running clouds. The characteristic Crimean flavor is created by the relationship of deep blue, purple tones of the sea, mountains and yellow-white stones of the walls, faded in the sun. Canvas dimensions: 34 x 28 cm.
